Attorney Profile: Marguerite É Marty

  • Marguerite is a graduate of Columbia Law School in New York, where she obtained her Juris Doctor as well as a Certificate in International and Foreign Law. She also received the honor of being selected to complete a semester at the University of Paris II--Panthéon.  While at Columbia, Marguerite received the distinction of being named a Stone Scholar as well as a Columbia Law School Public Service Fellow.  She received two Public Interest Law Foundation Fellowships and an award of Recognition for more than 75 hours of pro bono work.  Marguerite is also a graduate of Duke University where she completed the degrees of political science and French, and graduated magna cum laude. 


  • As an attorney, Marguerite's private practice focuses on immigration law, including family services, residency and citizenship, consular processing, court representation, and humanitarian relief such as U visas, asylum, NACARA, TPS, Humanitarian Parole, VAWA,  DACA and Special Immigrant Juveniles.  She has successfully represented clients from more than 60 countries worldwide, including Canada, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, Domincian Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, England, Denmark, Russia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovakia, France, Spain, Italy, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Togo, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Malawi, Cameroon, Chad, Zambia, Kenya, Algeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, India, the Philippines, Japan, China, North Korea, and Australia.


  • Marguerite has over 25 years of legal experience. This experience includes her work as a detention attorney for the Education and Representation Project, representing detained asylum seekers at the Elizabeth Detention Center. She was also a detainee attorney pursuant to an Office of Refugee Resettlement Survivors of Torture Grant.  Additionally, Marguerite has worked as the VAWA Attorney, NACARA & Central American Program Supervisor, and Community Justice Attorney for the American Friends Service Committee.  Marguerite was selected for the US Embassy's stage program  at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, the Supreme Court of the European Union. She also completed a two year clerkship at the United States Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York. Marguerite has also provided translation and interpretation services for refugees in New York City.


  • Marguerite is admitted to the New York Bar and the Bar of the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.  She is a member of Asista Safety & Justice for Immigrant Survivors, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and the French-American Bar Association.


  • Marguerite is fluent in English, French, and Spanish, and proficient in Portuguese. Marguerite is also an accomplished musician. She is a pianist and, along with her daughter, sang with the Continuo Arts Foundation at the Festival di Musica e Arte Sacra in Rome, the Festival of the Aegean in Greece, and Carnegie Hall. Marguerite also performed with the NY Downtown Chorus at Lincoln Center and  the 9/11 Memorial for First Responders.  


  • Marguerite volunteers for the  nonprofit The Children of Lavié, a grassroots organization providing tuition assistance to school children in West Africa.      


  • Marguerite is an avid traveler, painter, and animal lover.  Her greatest joy is helping her clients, and spending time with her family, especially her daughter Chantal.
